FAQ's

Q: WHEN MAKING A REFERRAL, DOES THE REFERRER HAVE TO GIVE OWN PERSONAL DETAILS?

The person making the referral can choose to remain anonymous, however, for the safety of the child, it would be best if s/he reveals his/her identity to the Child Protection Service so that a complete investigation can be carried out. When the referrer reveals his/her identity to the Service, s/he may still remain anonymous to the alleged abuser as far as this is possible.

Q: HOW WILL THE SOCIAL WORKERS ESTABLISH THAT ABUSE ON A CHILD IS ACTUALLY TAKING PLACE?

The staff at the Child Protection Service is qualified and trained people in the highly specialized field of child abuse. Through highly specialized therapeutic techniques and procedures they can establish a safe and healthy relationship with the children concerned who will themselves reveal the nature of the problem, if any, they will be going through.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS ONCE ABUSE IS ESTABLISHED?

All cases are treated according to their own merit; however, the safety of the children concerned is the highest priority in this situation. Therefore, all measures will be taken in order to ensure that this is safeguarded and that no further harm could come to the child concerned.

Q: DO ALL CASES REFERRED TO THE CHILD PROTECTION SERVICE RESULT IN CARE ORDERS?

Not all cases of alleged abuse result in actual abuse and not all cases of actual abuse result in a care order. The safety of the children concerned is always the primary priority in any case. Sometimes, ongoing monitoring and support may be what the family concerned would need in order to stop the abuse/neglect. In other situations, therapeutic intervention might be required to deal with the situation. Yet in other situations, it might be possible for the perpetrator to be distanced from the child being abused/neglected, and yet sometimes, the only solution to stop the abuse and protect the child would be a care order. Whatever the situation, all parties concerned will be offered the required support/therapy to deal with the circumstances.
